Adjuncts, Read Your Reappointment Letter Carefully

Make sure the salary listed in your reappointment letter matches the salary you should receive under the PSC-CUNY contract. You may be due a step increment in your hourly pay rate, based on semesters of adjunct service at CUNY. Following your completion of six semesters of teaching at CUNY over a three-year period, including summers, you are entitled to a pay increment which should take effect July 1 after you become eligible. It is your responsibility to notify the Human Resource Office at each college where you teach regarding your CUNY-wide work history to make sure that you are on the right salary step. The college has the contractual obligation to notify you of your title and hourly rate of pay in your appointment letter. If you believe that your hourly rate of pay is incorrect, you must notify your college�s Office of Human Resources within 30 work days of the first day of the semester to receive a retroactive pay adjustment for the semester. It is a good idea to period

The PSC Library Faculty Committee would like to remind you to vote in the referendum on Pathways. All full-time library faculty should have received a ballot in the mail. The paperwork included with the ballot also has instructions for voting by phone or online. If you have not received your ballot, please call the PSC offices at 212-354-1252.

Your participation in the referendum is important. Below you will find a brief statement outlining the Library Faculty Committee's position.

The members of the PSC Library Faculty Committee have �no confidence� in Pathways. We believe that faculty governance, especially the faculty�s historical role in deciding curriculum, was subverted by the process in which Pathways was designed and imposed. Moreover, we believe the Pathways structure does not foster robust, inquiry-based learning and reduces the opportunities for students to receive classroom instruction from librarians.

Dear Colleague:

I am happy to report that the problems with voting in the Pathways referendum have been resolved. Voting by phone, website and paper ballot is now open. Thank you for your patience and your many messages about ballot problems; all the voting systems are now up and running.

The American Arbitration Association will be contacting you directly to apologize for the series of errors on their part that led to the system failures over the weekend. I add my apologies on their behalf; the other officers and staff at the PSC very much regret that so many of you tried to vote over the weekend and couldn�t.

All the more reason to vote now! The urgency of demonstrating the faculty�s overwhelming lack of confidence in Pathways has not changed. It is more important now than ever that each one of us on the full-time faculty votes in the referendum. A big turnout in the referendum will position us to demand an alternative to Pathways that respects both the aspirations of our students and the intellectual authority of the faculty.

To vote by phone or through the AAA website, simply follow the instructions printed on the ballot you received in the mail, using the Personal Identification Number (PIN) printed on the lower left of the instruction sheet. Click here to see a sample ballot and instructions. The PIN included in your mailed ballot is still valid and is the number you will need.

If you prefer to vote by mail, please return the original ballot in the two envelopes sent by AAA so that it is received no later than May 31. You may remove the bottom section of the ballot instruction sheet, which contains your name, address and PIN. If you have voted already and did not remove the bottom of the sheet, or if you would prefer not to do so yourself, AAA has procedures in place to remove that portion of the ballot before it is tabulated, guaranteeing the secrecy of the ballot. If you have any other questions about the ballot, call the PSC at 212-354-1252.

Whatever voting method you choose, please vote today. The message we send through this referendum could exercise a decisive influence over the future of CUNY and could reverberate nationally. Don�t miss your chance to be part of it.
