SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: The TMCF is pleased to open its scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund is pleased to open its scholarship application process to all students seeking financial assistance for the 2011-2012 school year. TMCF scholarship recipients are awarded annually to students meeting the TMCF eligibility criteria for scholarship. Awards are made per semester based on a verification process designed to ensure students are meeting academic expectations and have an unmet financial need.

All classifications of students are invited to apply for a TMCF scholarship.

TMCF Scholarships:

Are merit based; however, applicants must have a financial need to qualify.
Awardees must re-apply annually for renewal.
Are restricted for payment of tuition, on campus room and board, books and fees.
Average awards are $2,200 per student per semester.
Are paid to the college or university on behalf of the students to be credited to their school accounts. Awards are not paid directly to students.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: AARP Women's Scholarship Program

AARP Women's Scholarship Program is about creating chances, fostering opportunities and, ultimately, changing lives. Recipients of these scholarships are diverse and inspirational: A widow finding hope and opportunity through education; a recovering addict achieving her dream of graduating from college; a grandmother raising grandchildren with the hope of achieving a more secure future for her family.

Priority is given to women in three categories:

Those who are raising the children of another family member
Those in low-paying jobs with no career opportunities and who are lacking a retirement benefit and/or health insurance
* Those who have been out of the workforce for more than five years

The scholarship program is made possible by AARP Foundation with generous support from the Wal-Mart Foundation and AARP.

The Foundation provides opportunities for individuals to realize their potential as math and science teachers. To enhance the quality of primary and secondary teachers by supporting their education.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Commitment to becoming a teacher with priority given to math or science majors
2. Entering the first or second year of college
3. A good academic record
4. Financially needs based
5. Must be a resident of New York State

Criteria for Winners:

1. Attributes that demonstrate a well rounded individual
2. Recommendations from teachers
3. Involvement in extracurricular school activities such as sports, clubs, and the performing arts
4. volunteer service in the community
5. Work experience

Amount of Award: To be determined based on student needs for the academic year and consideration for future funding if student sustains an academic record in good standing and is committed to becoming a teacher.

Fill out the form and mail it to the address provided, along with all required documentation by May 1, 2010.

Note that in addition to the application form, you must also provide:

A copy of your college acceptance letter
A copy of the prior year's federal tax return
A 250 word essay titled: "Why I Want to Become a Public School Teacher"
Two letters of recommendation from teachers (mailed separately by them)

Students interested in Pursuing a Ph.D.

You don't necessarily have to do a Masters degree first! The CUNY Pipeline Program will help you to apply for graduate school. This program will give educational and financial support to underrepresented CUNY undergraduates interested in pursuing the Ph.D. in any discipline except law and medicine.

Eligibility:

1. U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
2. Junior enrolled at York College who has earned at least 80 credits by the spring of the junior year;
3. Minimum GPA of 3.2;
4. An interest in college teaching and research.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and several national organizations have partnered to provide financial assistance to students who double as outstanding community leaders. Please visit our website for more information on the current available scholarships listed below, and share with qualified students at your respective schools. Strong candidates will exemplify the values of volunteerism and service.

� The Gold Standard Scholarship Program provides academic scholarships of $10,000 to local students in six NBA markets (New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans and Boston). Each of these recipients will be eligible for a larger national scholarship of $30,000 via an online competition to be awarded at a national event. All applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of application submission and be an African-American.

� The MillerCoors/Louis Bullard Memorial Scholarship program provides academic scholarships of $4400 to deserving students who attend Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. Students must be majoring in a business or finance related industry and have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

� The Starwood Hotels Scholarship Program provides academic scholarships of $4400 to deserving students who are interested in the hospitality industry. Students must be majoring in hotel management, hospitality/tourism or marketing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

� The Department of Defense/ROTC Scholarship programs provides academic scholarships of $4400 to deserving students who maintain the core values instilled by the ROTC program and balance them with their academic pursuits. All students must be enrolled in their school�s ROTC program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, these individuals are leaders in the community who exemplify the values of volunteerism and service.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, these individuals are leaders in the community who exemplify the values of volunteerism and service.

Scholarship Criteria:

Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of application submission
Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)
Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 and must apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Enrolled or plan to enroll full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student in a degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Guam in the upcoming academic year
Have a permanent address or attending school in one of the following metropolitan areas: Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New Orleans or New York City
Demonstrate leadership qualities and service experience
Be willing to be featured in online public voting competition for a chance to win an additional $30,000 scholarship
Be of African-American or Hispanic descent
